System Operator Job in US 2025 – Resilience Engineering

We are seeking a System Operations Engineer to join our cross-functional team in Chattanooga, TN. In this role, you will help operate, maintain, and optimize our commercial quantum computers. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology while learning directly from world-class physicists and engineers.

Recent graduates in physics or related fields are encouraged to apply—we will provide full training in quantum computer operation and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor quantum computer hardware and software to ensure peak performance and uptime.
  • Deliver and continually improve the customer experience.
  • Automate system capabilities to enhance performance.
  • Collaborate with physicists and engineers to develop tools that improve current and future systems.
  • Participate in a rotating, follow-the-sun on-call schedule to maintain system performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics, engineering, or a related physical science.
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset for working in distributed teams.
  • Hands-on experience with optical alignments, laser stabilization, and/or AOMs.
  • 1+ year of laboratory experience in atomic and/or optical physics.
  • 3+ years of professional experience (or equivalent education/experience mix).
  • Formal training in statistics.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving work environments and flexible schedules, including 24/7 on-call shifts.
  • Enthusiasm for physics—especially quantum physics—and emerging technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in physics, engineering, or related field.
  • Strong skills in Python or JavaScript.
  • Background in data analysis, machine learning, or software engineering.

Compensation & Benefits:

Base Salary: $93,150 – $121,958 (DOE)
Total Compensation: Base + bonus + equity
